The handling of people with social welfare issues (PMKS) existence is taken seriously by Jakarta Provincial Government. Evidently, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to eradicate PMKS in the capital city has just been signed with Jakarta Police.

If the PMKS returned to Jakarta and caught, they will be charged criminally

“With this MoU, we give massage that Jakarta Provincial Government is serious and the police will fully back us up in eradicating PMKS. We’ll also prepare lawyer and actively suing PMKS to be proceeded to the police,” stated Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama after with Jakarta Police signed the MoU on Law Enforcement Against Violations and Crime Related to PMKS, at City Hall, Monday (9/29).

“On the form is mentioned that if the PMKS returned to Jakarta and caught, they will be charged criminally,” he told.

Basuki stressed that Jakarta Provincial Government will not apply misdemeanor sanction in the raid against PMKS in the capital city. Instead, the sanction to be applied is firm sanction in accordance to Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order.

“Usual, bluffed them first. If it didn’t work, we’ll arrest them,” he asserted.

Basuki assessed that most of bums and beggars in Jakarta are not truly underprivileged people and only look for sympathy.

“Most of the PMKS who come back here are traders, not truly underprivileged people. They come here to build houses,” he told.

In addition, Basuki informed that the MoU will be arranged further in an agreement between Jakarta Provincial Government and Jakarta Police.

“The MoU is valid in a period of 12 months starting its signing today,” he said.
